TapeHiss.net is a music label (formerly Tape Hiss Recordings) created by Scott Carr in 1990. Originally a tiny cassette tape label dedicated to releasing his electronic and lo-fi experimental music under the name Hebephrenic, it evolved to include collaborations with Gene Pembroke, Paul Dellevigne and several other songwriters and musicians.
From 1993 to 1999 the label made the dark and strange Christmas music of The Hot Buttered Elves available on a series of cassette tapes. Most of these were either given away to friends as Christmas gifts or sold in local shops in the Philadelphia area. A small fan-base also developed on the Internet and two compilation CD’s were released in 1999 and 2001.
In 2003 the label released a CD collection of experimental recordings Scott had made with the Tapegerm Collective during the early 2000′s. New CD’s by The Hot Buttered Elves followed in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012.
In early 2013 Scott started collecting and mastering a few of the recordings from the old tapes he had made in the mid 1980′s. The first set of extremely minimal soundscapes were released later that year under the name Analog Sunsets.
Since 2015 Scott has been developing several other projects including a solo album of Holiday and Christmas music.
